Judicial membership in the Retired Judges of America (RJA) is restricted to retired and former judges who subscribe to RJA’s Mission Statement and following declaration of principles:
I affirm the rule of law and principle of statutory construction that Alexander Hamilton announced in Federalist Essay Number 78, “The courts must declare the sense of the law; and if they should be disposed to exercise will instead of judgment, the consequence would equally be the substitution of their pleasure to that of the legislative body.” Accordingly, I affirm that the language of the United States Constitution must be interpreted as the words had meaning when issued by its framers, subject to amendments adopted pursuant to law.
